By Sean O’Connell Hollywoodnews.com: It was lining up to be a potential Jerry Bruckheimer production, or a possible successor to the “National Treasure” franchise. But now another studio will be telling the story of the Navy’s SEAL Team 6, the unit that captured and killed Osama Bin Laden. Walt Disney Co. withdrew its application with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office for the rights to exclusively use the term “SEAL Team 6,” according to the Wall Street Journal. The studio, according to reports, contemplated using it on “items ranging from toys and games to snow globes and Christmas stockings.” No doubt a movie about the team’s famous mission no doubt would have followed. Disney has said that it withdrew the application “out of deference to the Navy.” It is a classy move, and the right move. We don’t need a “Navy SEAL Team 6” ride in Disneyland, or a softened story about the Bin Laden mission with Nicolas Cage as the squad’s leader.
